The Scheme was established by the late Poet Laureate, Ted Hughes, to give children the opportunity to touch, feel and see the relationship between food farming and wildlife. The children are transported by bus from school to farm for a half day visit. Once there they engage in all sort of activities from dissecting barn owl pellets to learning about wheat and making bread. After the visit the children produce a project at school which they are invited to display. The displays are judged and a prize awarded to the winning school. The visits were a great success and six schools in the Bridgwater area took part in this year’s scheme.
